2013 - A Year Of Greatness

Times Are A Changing A BIG Happy New Year to you and yours.  I really feel 2013 is a year for greatness and year for growth for all.  From November of 2012 I spent countless hours revising my business over the last 12 months.  I checked out what worked, what could be improved and what was a challenge.  I do this every year in my business, I almost go into a hibernation state as I work through the ups and the challenges for the last 10 - 12 months.  You will notice the newsletter has had a change of colour and layout.  You may also notice the heading has significantly changed.  My reevaluation of my business and core strengths invited me to re-access my business style and service. I now have incorporated the areas of my business under one umbrella making it easier to distinguish each part.  This was a huge challenge and exciting at the same time.  Are you in the process of re-evaluating your business and your life?  How did you go about the process?  Are you still in the process?  If you are stuck and would like to share your challenges please contact me for a complimentary 15 minute action traction session.

Appreciation IS Booming In Business

WHAT is the value of appreciation? Lee Cummins believes a simple “Thinking About You” or “Thank you for Your Business” could lead to anything from a smile to increased profitability.

Cummins, is a local Snr Manager, representing the US based online greeting card company, SendOutCards 

Unlike other online card companies, which allows users to send an internet link to a personalised card on the internet, SendOutCards users get to personalise one of the 17,000 card options or even create their own cards using their personal photos, which is then mailed to the recipient, anywhere in the world.

Once a user logs on to SendOutCards   subscribes to the service, they can create their own secured account where they can store information like names, addresses, birthdays, anniversary dates or reminders along with photos to send appreciation messages.

Users receive emails to get their cards out in time for these occasions. There is also an option to send gifts or gift cards, which can be selected from options on the website, along with the card.

The card is printed within 24 hours after the user completes their order. Cards of the highest quality standards and printed on recycled paper.  Mailing time differs according to the postal service within the country in which the recipient lives.

Receiving an emailed link to an on-line  e-card does not compare to going to the mailbox and seeing a card among all the bills and windowed envelopes or whatever else is mailed.  Another benefit of SendOutCards, is it is more convenient than heading to a store to purchase cards, lining up at the post office or worse, not remembering to post the card.

SendOutCards makes it hassle free. You can access it at any time from a computer with internet access, no matter where you are.  You could choose from the wide selection of cards or make your own. The cost of the card is cheaper than most of the options available at card shops.

The service is utilised in the United States, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, Canada, UK and Singapore by businessmen, businesswomen and companies, including real estate agents, dentists, doctors, mortgage companies and other businesses which rely on customer- based earnings.

People feel underappreciated. 68% of customers move away from a business due to percieved indifference.

This is a simple tool to show appreciation. It is inexpensive and time saving. A lot of companies take business from people and do not say thank you. The experience is not personalised. This little tool could help many expand their business.

SendOutCards has also been used to teach school aged children appreciation and can be used as a fund raising initiative.

To raise funds, organisations such as schools or churches, can become distributors themselves and encourage parents or members to take out subscriptions to the service.

Do you wish you could have invested in iTunes, Amazon.com, or Netflix when they launched?

What do these businesses have in common?

They all were game changers.

Amazon.com revolutionized the way we shop for books. Borders, Barnes & Noble and the other booksellers stopped expanding and started closing stores.

iTunes changed the way we buy music. I bet you'd have a hard time even finding a record store anymore!  Most record sales are digital thanks the way Apple revolutionized the music business.

Netflix was a game changer in the video business. It's hard to find a local video store any more. Many of the franchise video stores have closed down. Blockbuster went bankrupt and was bought buy Dish Network for peanuts.

What do these businesses have in common?

They used technology to deliver the same service better, cheaper, and most importanly in a more convenient way.

Anyone who invested in Apple, Amazon, or Netflix is happy they did. These businesses are now dominating their industry. I wish I had the foresight to invest in them 5 or 10 years ago.

What if there was a new home business that was doing the same thing?

Ever Had A Book Change You?

I have always been an avid reader right back since being a young child.  I did give reading a spell for a little while but only because I could never find the time, or when I did have some time to spare the book wasn’t with me.  Then.... I discovered Kindle on the Ipad, I am now back reading at a furious pace. 
I love the selection of books, I love the fact that whilst hubby is watching footy I can be in the same room with the backlit Ipad and read my book.  Now I have the time and a world of books at my fingertips.
Just recently I added to my collection the book ‘The Magic’ by Rhonda Byrne also known for ‘The Secret’.  So far I have been like a sponge reading page by page, chapter by chapter.  What an amazing book.  One of the chapters suggests waking every morning and being thankful what the day lies ahead and saying ‘thank you, thank you, thank you three times. 
Along with doing the suggestions after each chapter I have also been participating in the 30 Day Gratitude Challenge.  Since adopting more of a gratitude and thank you nature to the beginning of my day, I have seen remarkable shifts in my well-being, my health and my thinking.
It is a well documented, scientific,  fact that coming from a ‘good place’ , a place of gratitude, appreciation and thankfulness the feel good hormone, Serotonin increases.  Also, if you give someone a gift, compliment or a gesture of gratitude, their levels of Serotonin rise.  Amazingly, anyone in the room witnessing this act of gratitude, goodwill or thankfulness also sees a significant rise in their Serotonin levels.
Who would you like to give the gift of a rise in the feel good hormone?  Everyone benefits, imagine if all of Australia, or might I suggest the world had a lift in Serotonin every day, would the world be the same place today as it was yesterday?

How would you feel if you really touched your customer?

Touch points are the amount of interactions you have with a potential client, customer or consumer  Touch points include the first face to face conversation or the over the phone conversation, You then have static touch points which include your business cards, flyers, print ads in printed publications such as local papers, national papers, magazines etc.  There are now the internet touch points which would include your Facebook profile, Facebook business page, Twitter tweets, your website, blogs or video and traditional emails.  Utilising extra touch points such as a greeting card, postcard or handwritted letter are more traditional touch points that often get over looked for the more high tech opportunities. 

Every time you have the opportunity to touch your potential client customer or consumer it is the opportunity to win them over into becoming a purchasing client, customer or consumer.  When you have the ability to analyze your touch points  you maximise the positive interaction.  This also lends it's self for you to have the abiliity to turn your new customer into a promoter of your business be it product or service.

Have you counted how many touch points you have in your business?  Have you identified the ones that are a positive interaction?  Have you identified the ones that may need a little work?  Are their touch points you are missing?  Touch points are the points to which you stand head and shoulders above your competitor.

Fortune Is In The Follow Up

80% Of Sales Are Made On the 5th to 12th Contact

Do you ever wonder why some people are more successful than others?

The old saying "Fortune Is In The Follow Up" is as  important if not more important today as it has always been.  48% of  people that are in sales or business never follow up with a prospect.
 A staggering 25% make a second contact and then stop.
If you consider that only 2% of sales are made on the first contact and 10% of sales are made on the forth contact.  Yet, 80% of sales are made between the 5th and 12th contact.

With the advent of the internet and emails staying in contact can be much easier and cost effective than strategies of years gone by.  Keeping in contact and staying top of mind is imperative to today's business market.  Do you have an effective top of mind strategy in your business?  How do you keep in contact with your potential clients, customers or consumers?


7 Top Contact Strategies For Your Business

  1. Email Newsletters - yes our in-boxes do get a hammering with email newsletters, however as a cost effective marketing option for SME's it can create regular contact with your database.  Consider how often you wish to connect, what do you need to communicate, is the information valuable to your database.  Keep consistent with your sending pattern.  Keep the 80/20 rule in mind.  80% information, 20% sales.  A service like Mail-chimp offers a very cost effective service for a small to medium database, larger databases there is a minimal fee.  mail-chimp also allows the sender to gather statistical information on their open rates, click throughs etc.  Mail-chimp also has very strict spamming boundaries so you are covered with spamming, unsubscribes etc.
  2. SMS Messages- sending an SMS again is cost effective for a small database and is instant.  If you have a quick 140 character message for a call t action then SMS text messaging can be a very cost effective option.
  3. Direct Email - sending an email directly to a potential client, customer or consumer allows a more personal style of communication and can be done directly through your mail account without having to use a 3rd party provider.  Be sure to add an unsubscribe button if you are sending to a full database.  This is a legal requirement.
  4. Video Emailing - if you really want to get personal and add some variety to an email then video emailing is a very cost effective medium.  You can also send one video email to many.  Again, you can receive statistical information to see if your message is getting out there.  I use a program called Eyejot which offers a low cost video email service.  The recipient can open the video in their usual web browser without having to download third party applications.  These days with the Iphone/smartphone you can also send video MMS or Facetime
  5. The Old Fashioned Phone Call  - crazy as it may sound there are some of us out there that would really love to hear from you.  There are so many forms of technology these days that the ways to connect are really limitless including all the social media sites.  Some of our clients, customers and consumers are auditory and for them a video is great they can listen, but a good old fashioned phone call can be so much better.  When was the last time you picked up the phone and connected with someone instead of using an email, txt message or Facebook?  A phone call can get to the bottom of things quickly, spark interaction and conversation that can lead to all matters of business and connection.   If your target market are home business based, stay at home Mum's or sole traders then you could just change someones day with a simple phone call.
  6. Handwritten Note or Card - when you go to the mailbox do you dread seeing the envelopes with windows?  I know I do, do your clients feel the same way?  How would they feel if your next form of contact was a beautiful handwritten note or card?  A card that says 'thanks for the referral', 'pleasure doing business with you', 'let's catch up for a coffee', 'happy birthday', 'been thinking of you'.  How fabulous would that make them feel?  How many businesses have you received a handwritten note or card from in the last 6 months?  Are they top of mind?  I bet you could count them on one hand.  How many businesses haven't acknowledged you for your business or service?  I bet you run out of fingers and toes!  I use a fabulous program in my business that is cost effective and convenient to use.  This is how I stay top of mind in conjunction with my complete marketing and relationship building strategy.
  7. Holding/Hosting An Event - hosting your own event is another way of staying top of mind, keeping in contact with many and building relationships.  An event could be anything from an informal coffee morning, a training or workshop, cinema evenings, networking events or a meet-up for your area.   Hosting an event gives you the opportunity to stay connected through the 4 stages being:  invitation stage, the connection stage, the event stage and the follow up stage.  Event hosting can be a cost effective and fulfilling process.
