![]() My heart was racing and my mind was right along side it as I woke from a restless night sleep. I felt agitated and angry for no particular reason. I actually had no cause for this feeling, yet as the morning progressed so did this angry and agitated mood. I could almost feel the blood rising to my face and pulsating through my veins. Does this sound familiar? Have you ever experienced feelings of anger and agitation for no reason? It actually is a common issue; most people don’t like to admit to it as they think there might be something ‘wrong with them’. The pressures of daily life, changes to hormones, changes to surroundings and less not forget to mention a pandemic, can through our emotions into turmoil. It is ok to get angry and agitated as long it isn’t an ongoing predicament or a regular occurrence, that may be a whole issue again. There are ways to combat the occasional journey into anger and agitation. If you are able to identify what is making you angry or agitated, the first option is to remove yourself from the person or the situation. If, however it is more about just being in that mood there are some wonderful easy to implement options. Trying regulating your breathing. Take a moment to take a deep breath in through your nose and then out through your mouth. Slow your breathing and take nice deep breathes in, right down from your stomach. With each breath in imagine the tension realising starting form the top of your head, moving right over your body and down to your toes. Think about a place you feel at ease and at peace. It may be by the beach, sitting by a river or amongst nature. Let your imagination take you away to that place as the anger and agitation subsides. This exercise need only take a few minutes to help reduce that feeling. After doing this I also like to incorporate a round of EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique). EFT is like using psychological acupuncture without the needles. EFT is a process of tapping using a particular sequence based on the meridian points. EFT focuses as a combination on acupressure along with d mindfulness and doing so can significantly lower the stress hormone cortisol. Using tapping we can also ‘rewire’ the way we are thinking through creating new neural pathways to alleviate the feelings of anger and agitation. EFT is not limited to anger and agitation. I have worked with clients to assist in weight loss, mild addictions, fear of success, fear of failure, picking up the telephone to follow up prospects to name a few. The list is endless to how EFT can help as it is non-invasive and can be easily done anywhere at anytime.
